Dog With Hip Dysplasia Stops Pulling on Leash

Intro to Tellington TTouch® with Your Dog class was a huge success. The day was packed with information and many “ah ha” moments. Gwen wanted to help Lucy, her dog who has hip dysplasia, to stop pulling on the leash. The next morning I received this email message.

Lucy Relaxing with a Body Wrap

“Lucy and I went for our first long walk this morning after the class yesterday using her new halter and leash.  It was the most relaxing walk we’ve ever had!  I focused on two things as we went, 1. I can’t help her and she can’t stay balanced (on her dysplasic hips) if she’s walking ahead of me and 2. communicating what I wanted through the leash (as opposed to the obedience way of tensing up when she did something wrong, holding my breath until she did it right and then rewarding/praising her).

“. . .  Even a dog off leash and a runner came by us and she didn’t bark!  The gestalt of the walk was that we were connected the whole time.  I was afraid it would be a lot of work, but it was actually really wonderful. Gwen”

Suzie who trains assistance dogs wrote, “I learned so much Elaine. Things I hadn’t even thought I would learn – like the neck collar alternative. I loved the class. Thank you so much!”
