Change Affects Everyone | Dogs, Cats and People

Do you realize how much change affects everyone — dogs, cats, and people? I’m being re-educated in the field of change.

You’ve heard the phrase, “The only thing that is constant is change.” For the past few months and today, I’m living in a whirlwind of change.

John and I  realized how much we enjoyed escaping winter by visiting friends in Arizona. We were thinking of moving to a warmer climate and decided now’s the time to move to Prescott, Arizona.

We came home and started clearing out the house.

The first huge change was getting the house ready for sale. After so many years in Minneapolis, we had lots to throw out. We filled trashcans – ours and our neighbors. We found a wonderful person who specializes in estate sales. She lightened our load for us as we staged the house for sale.

We learned staging is removing lots of stuff from the house including art, personal items, and even kitchen towels from counters. It helps the potential buyers to picture the house with their stuff.

Even Sophie the dog, Hobbes BFF, really noticed the changes. First, she stopped going to the bedroom to nap. We removed the rugs, and the wooden floors were too slippery for her to jump on the bed. Yes, change affects everyone including dogs!

Suddenly, her spot of the “Executive Suite,” aka porch changed. As we removed the dog benches, added a rug, and put chairs in the “dog viewing corner.” Sophie went on the porch, stopped, and then laid down staring at her spot! I quickly moved a chair and put a low table with her cushion on it. All was well again!

We moved the knife holder from one end of the counter to the other. I can’t tell you how often I go to the old spot first!

Then I put the bathroom trash can under the sink. Yes, daily I turn around to throw the dental floss in the moved trash can!

I was in the middle of this chaos of small changes, and a friend reminded me how much the house changed after decades of living there. If felt like we were living in someone else’s house. Even Sophie noticed the changes.

Change can be subtle and significant. All these small changes add up — kids are out of school, schedule changes, moving, new jobs, vacations, and more affect you and your pets’ lives. Just move the cat’s litter box or change the litter. The cat will let you know! Change affects everyone.

Does your dog or cat need an animal communication this summer to help with changes? Now is a perfect time.

PS –Stay tuned for more changes as we move to our perfect home in Prescott, Arizona. I’ll be working during this move.

  1. I lived in Arizona from 2003-2012, outside of Phoenix. Loved living there. Prescott is beautiful. I’m sure you will love it. Change is good. Congrats to you and your family. Enjoy your next chapter.

    1. Toni, I’m excited to move there. I’ll miss Minneapolis. I’m excited to share the fantastic views from our new home.

  2. Fabulous you’re moving a half hour away! Leave your polyester in Minneapolis as well as down clothing. Cotton, wool, and modal are comfort wear in the desert southwest. Yes, Prescott is “high desert”. You will love living here!
