Yes, words are important to pets and people! How often have you told your dog “stop barking” and she keeps barking? Or you told your cat “stop peeing outside the litter box” and he keeps doing it. Ugh, the mess!

Both the dogs and the cats ignored the word “no” and continue doing the next word – bark, pee, etc. They keep doing what you don’t want them to do! Yes sometimes pets will listen to “No” used alone because of the tone of your voice. Often, just like people, they start the unwanted behavior again.

As pet parents, and I include myself, need to remember to tell the pets what we want them to do! So usually I remind Hobbes “good quiet” the moment he stops barking. This attention is a reward for Hobbes. And usually he is quiet!

Have you ever had a nick name you really hated? Or have you asked people to use another name than your given name? You know, sometimes the name just doesn’t fit you.

The same is true with pet names. Hobbes had another name when we adopted him. He hated it and asked it to be changed.

Have you thought about your pet’s name and what your pet may think of it. I know several pets that were miserable with their names and acted out all the time.

Years ago I knew dog named “Chaos” who lived up to her name. Recently one pet’s name was changed after years, and she is now a loving pet instead of the biter and fighter!

Yes, words are important. Several years ago I was introduced to the book The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto. The photos of the crystals “Do It!” and “Let’s do it!” made a huge impact on me.

It changed how I think about words.

To experience Emoto’s work with water crystals, please take a few minutes and watch this video.

Remember words are important to pets and people. Words affect everyone.

Concerned about your pet? Schedule a free 15 minute consult to discuss your pet and the best options to “bring out the best in your pet.”

TTouch® is the language of trust and love for animals and people.

Some animals need to learn to trust first before they are comfortable giving love. Others just enjoy the undivided attention. An easy way to give undivided attention to your pet is doing Tellington TTouch®.

Linda Tellington-Jones Gives Hobbes TTouches

TTouch® can change animals’ lives for the better and definitely affect people too. My life was profoundly changed with TTouch® as I saw the affect on Boomer, our dog who was afraid of vets.

The impact was so great, I changed my career. In small ways TTouch® can change your life too.

TTouch® builds trust through cooperation and mutual respect to all living beings. Anyone can learn it.

The language of TTouch® is gentle touches done with your hands to your cat, dog, guinea pig, or best friend. Combined with mindful movement, TTouch® makes amazing changes in our pets and us.

Did you know you can help a pet with excessive vocalization, car sickness, fears, mobility issues, pulling on the leash, and so much more?

I have so many wonderful stories to share about clients and their pets.

A client calmed her dog on a walk after a 1‑1/2 hour class.

A dog with an irreversible heart condition improved with TTouch®.

A carsick puppy in Alaska was helped with Ear Slides. She now enjoys her rides.

In less than 5 minutes, you can help your pet with TTouch too. To begin, sit with your cat or dog and give her your full attention. Slowly exhale to settle yourself. Now very gently, slowly stroke your hand down their back and the entire body.

If he moves away, let him go. Slowly stroke his body with your hand lightly touching him. You just showed you pet how much you love him. And he will ask for more.

When she asks for more, try the Ear Slides shown in this video.

I hope this is the beginning or continuation of your journey with TTouch®. Hobbes approves of it and I think your pet will too.

Want to learn more about TTouch®? Sign up for a free 15-minute phone/Zoom consultation with Elaine.

Do you get frustrated because your dog is jumping, barking, or generally misbehaving? Do you get tense as you tell your dog to sit or to walk calmly? Does your dog have anxiety?

Are you getting tense reading this? Now exhale. Yes, just exhale and feel your shoulders lower. Did you realize you were holding your breathe? Now exhale again.

I share this tip with many clients and at the dog training center where I volunteer. When you exhale, you relax and you may notice a big change in your dog. Your pet picks up on your stress even when they may be causing the stress. Cats also respond well to exhales.

I learned this tip at Tellington TTouch® training when many dogs were barking in response to one dog barking. The instructor told everyone to exhale. We did and the dogs became quiet. Since then, I when I working with animals or feel stressed, I exhale. I found I can exhale any time and any place, even when driving in heavy traffic or in an important meeting!

This simple way to calm your dog & resolve behavior problems is one of many tips I can teach you.

Does your pet have pain or act scared sometimes?

Ever wish you could tell her something she would understand?

Wish you knew what he was thinking?

Every people/pet team has unique needs. Often, a combination of approaches will serve both the client and the pet best. It really depends on each individual animal and person’s needs. All methods are gentle and loving.

Each session is as unique as your pet and each session with your pet can be unique from her previous sessions.

It’s easy to set up your sessions, just contact me here or call me at 612-237-9580. I’m happy to help you explore the options and find the best solution for your unique situation.

“Elaine has been very helpful and supportive since my adoption of a very anxious dog. Her t-touch sessions and ongoing communication has helped us both. She has great suggestions and is very responsive to my frantic calls.” – Lynnea Forness, Minneapolis, MN

Jackson, a Shiba Inu and Husky blend, was referred to me because he was showing signs of canine anxiety by being “out of control” on walks and excessive barking at other dogs. Janet was embarrassed by her pet’s problems.

When I met Jackson in his home, he was pacing, panting, frantically wagging his tail, and in continual motion. Janice adopted Jackson two months ago and this is his normal. I explained to Janice how to read Jackson’s body language. Suddenly, she realized she had not understood what he was trying to tell her. He was not happy and excited; he was nervous and afraid.

Jackson After A TTouch® Session

Jackson settled as I gently used TTouch® touches on him. His breathing started to shift from panting to normal breathing. The major change came when I put a body wrap on him. Suddenly Jackson sat still and looked around the room. His breathing slowed down and his tail relaxed. Janice said, “He never does this.” During the rest of the session, Jackson was alert and calm.

Walks were a real challenge — Jackson pulled on his leash and head collar. He also pawed the head collar. Jackson also wore a harness. So I made some adjustments. We changed from the leash with a large, heavy clip to a double-ended TTouch® leash. I taught Janice how to walk Jackson with two-points of contact. We walked out of the apartment, down a flight of stairs, out the main door, and across the street. Jackson was alert and walked with a loose leash. Everyone was happy.

A week later, Janice said she now understands his body language better. Their walks are more relaxed. At home, Jackson asks for TTouches® when he sits in her lap. If she pets him, he licks and touches her until she does the TTouches®. Then he sits calmly. Janice is thrilled with Jackson’s calm demeanor.
